CODE 1: We are a bucket fountain church.

c3-code-1

We have launched week one of our series CODE at C3 Wellington. The series CODE is all about the DNA of C3 Wellington – who we are, who we want to be, and the culture we want to cultivate as a people.  What an awesome Sunday we had kicking it off with Pastor Steve. The message was authentic, vulnerable, and loving.

If you weren't able to make it on Sunday, let's recap it because we really don't want you to miss out!

Code 1: We are a bucket fountain.

“So, this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you. For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for friends. You show that you are my intimate friends when you obey all that I have commanded you. I have never called you “servants”, because a master doesn’t confide in his servants, and servants don’t always understand what the master is doing.

But I call you my most intimate friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father. You didn’t choose me, but I’ve chosen and commissioned you to go into the world to bear fruit. And your fruit will last, because whatever you ask of my Father, for my sake, he will give it to you! So, this is my parting command: Love one another deeply!”

John 15 v 12 - 17

You are designed to have an intimate relationship with Jesus.

Jesus has shown us the greatest love by sacrificing His life, sacrificing His all for us. Jesus calls us His most intimate friends. Jesus wants to share with us everything the Father has revealed to Him. Jesus has chosen you to have an intimate relationship with Him.

You are designed for deep relationship amongst a community of believers.

Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you. This was Jesus' greatest command to us. From the intimate relationship we build with Jesus, we can start to out pour that into others.  We can be real, open, and transparent with one another and we can find freedom and acceptance in community. We can love others deeply just as Jesus chose to deeply love us.

I love the way Pastor Steve helped us visualize the picture of what this should look like. In Wellington on one of our infamous streets – Cuba Street, we have this fountain made from buckets. One bucket fills with water until it is so full and heavy that it tips over and starts to fill the bucket below. This continues as the buckets fill and tip down the fountain and then repeat.

What a beautiful visualization this is of when we become so intimate with Jesus that we are filled to overflowing and we start to pour out onto others what Jesus has first filled us with. Intimacy with Jesus comes first, which then gives us the ability to be intimate with our friends and family. We are filled, poured out, and filled again. This is the rhythm and design for Gods people, His church.

Then on the most important day of the feast, the last day, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds - “All you thirsty ones, come to me! Come to me and drink! Believe in me so that rivers of living water will burst out from within you, flowing from your innermost being.”

John 7 v 37 – 38

A simple drink from Jesus results in a river of living water bursting out from within you. In other words, intimacy with Jesus creates a constant river within you to live out of a place of overflow. When you have overflow from Jesus, you can pretty much do anything. Who knows that a river doesn’t stop flowing? A river is constant and was designed with such a purpose. Flowing rivers provide food, power, and irrigation. When we talk about the river that will burst out from within you, we are addressing the fact that you then become a river for the thirsty. Only out of the overflow of Jesus, will you have the ability to love others deeply and serve His people.

“I [Jesus] love each of you with the same love that the Father loves me. You must continually let my love nourish your hearts.”’

John 15 v 9

Jesus desires to cherish, build up and strengthen your heart. As a church we must get aligned with Jesus’ desire for your heart.

What does this look like in a church setting?

We will be a church of revitalization.

A church of revitalization means that we recognise that you exist for deep relationship with Jesus and His people. We exist as a church to see your heart nourished, to provide a place of rest, to seek intimacy with Jesus alongside you, to have fun, to live in freedom, to accept you as you are, to be burden lifters, and to champion you in your purpose. We as a church are for you and want all that God has for you also! What can we do for you?

We are a bucket fountain church. We want you to experience the oasis that is the love of Jesus. We want you to come thirsty and drink. We want you to experience the burden lifting, chain breaking, and freedom bringing love of Jesus. We want to see that drink from Jesus to become a river within you. We want to see buckets overflow into buckets. We want to be a church of overflow. We want to be a church of love.
